CAN I ALLEVIATE MY SHIN PAIN?

MOVEMENT OF THE DAY
DEEP SPLIT SQUAT

How to perform it:

Stand tall with your feet together, spine straight, and core engaged. Step one leg forward into a wide stance, keeping your back leg extended and your toes pointing forward.

Lower your body by bending both knees, letting your back knee dip just above the ground while keeping your front knee aligned with your toes. Pause briefly, then drive through your front heel to return to the starting position.

Watch me perform this exercise here.

Why it helps:

The Deep Split Squat builds lower body strength, improves knee stability, enhances balance, and is gentler on the hips and back than traditional squats. It’s ideal for beginners and boosting dynamic strength.

QUESTIONS FROM READERS
CAN I ALLEVIATE MY SHIN PAIN?

QUESTION:

Hi David,

I follow you on Instagram and actively incorporate your exercises and stretches into my daily routine!

But unfortunately, when running, I feel too much pain in my shin area and the outer muscle of my shin bone.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me!

Best,

Harit Dahiya

ANSWER:

Hey Harit!

I am super happy when people share how they use the information I provide! I’m glad it’s been helpful to you.

It sounds like you might be struggling with shin splints, compartment syndrome, or some other inflammatory issue caused by the impact you take when you run.

Please talk to a physical therapist or doctor if it continues to get worse, but I do have some advice that has helped me with these issues in the past.

Tip 1: When you run, try to make very little noise with your feet. Strange tip, I know! But this forces you to hit the ground much softer and lessens the impact on your body.

Tip 2: Start a stretch routine for your lower legs. Things like Tibialis raises and calf raises help a lot! Here is a video that shows what Tibialis raises look like.

As you can see, shin training is actually a thing! In time, you will overcome this.

Best of luck to you, and…
